But what exactly does it mean to have a strong foundation? It encompasses mastering the fundamentals of mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These basic operations serve as the cornerstone upon which all other mathematical concepts are constructed. To excel in these basics, students should practice them repeatedly until they achieve mastery and fluency. Additionally, it is vital to engage with word problems and real-world scenarios early on, as this helps students connect math to the tangible world around them, making learning more enjoyable. Many students in higher grades struggle because they approach math solely as a collection of numbers and formulas to memorize, rather than truly understanding the underlying problems. This memorization-based approach can lead to unnecessary mental burdens.
